The ideal APOU post, I suppose, would mention science or technology (for everyone); lighthouses (for Liam); dangerous engineering (for James); comical stupidity (for Soph); and Russia (for me).

Particularly enjoyed the sentence 'So, special lightweight small atomic reactors were produced in limited series to be delivered to the Polar Circle lands and to be installed on the lighthouses.'
Also like the fact that the photographer clearly completely ignored the signs saying 'Danger, Radioactive'.
If you should see anything amazing in aPieceOfThem, do post about it in aPOU for heaven's sake. It updates far more frequently than any of us look at this page. Unless it's a really slow day.

I suspect they were radiothermal generators rather than actual reactors. RTGs are a lot simpler to build and less maintenance-intensive.
Can we find one and establish our Republic of APOU there, to plot our world domination attempt?
